Viewers Notice Something Odd About Michelle Obama During President Obama’s Farewell

  • President Barack Obama delivered his nationally-televised farewell speech on Jan. 10.

Obama got choked up several times when referring to his wife Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha, as the Daily Mail noted.

In a touching tribute to his daughters, Obama said: “Malia and Sasha, under the strangest of circumstances, you have become two amazing young women, smart and beautiful, but more importantly, kind and thoughtful and full of passion.

You wore the burden of years in the spotlight so easily. Of all that I’ve done in my life, I’m most proud to be your dad.”

Malia, who was seated in the audience, could be seen on camera shedding tears at her father’s sentimental remarks.

(Sasha was not in attendance, but remained home in Washington D.C., where she had a school exam the following morning.)

The President had some touching remarks for the First Lady also:

“Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, girl of the South Side, for the past 25 years, you’ve been not only my wife and mother of my children, you have been my best friend.

You took on a role you didn’t ask for and you made it your own, with grace and with grit and with style and good humor. You made the White House a place that belongs to everybody.

And the new generation sets its sights higher because it has you as a role model. So you have made me proud. And you have made the country proud.”

His words to Michelle brought forth more tears, seemingly from everyone in the house – except for Michelle, who remained mysteriously dry-eyed.

In contrast, Vice President Joe Biden could be seen wiping his eyes numerous times, especially when President Obama got around to addressing him.

“We love you and Jill like family,” said Obama of Biden, “and your friendship has been one of the great joys of our lives.”

Of course the President did speak about numerous important topics as well, as CNN observed.

Perhaps his most notable comments were regarding the nation’s racial controversies, which were not solved by the election of America’s first black president, as he frankly pointed out.

“Brown kids will represent a larger share of America’s workforce” Obama noted, warning that “laws alone won’t be enough” in making the country’s multicultural population harmonious. “Hearts must change,” he said.
