With all the new legislation being introduced across the United States, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office felt the need the issue a travel advisory to its citizens within the LGBT community. I for one am glad to hear this, so those who are coming to our country can abide by our state laws
This comes on the heels of the recent laws passed in North Carolina banning transgender people from using public restrooms, as well as Mississippi’s new laws allowing businesses to deny services to gay couples based on religious objections. Ty Cobb, the director of Human Rights Campaign Global stated:
“It is both frightening and embarrassing that one of our nation’s staunchest allies has warned its citizens of the risks of traveling to North Carolina and Mississippi because of anti-LGBT laws passed by their elected officials.”
We have seen celebrities, politicians, associations, as well as big corporations boycott North Carolina and Mississippi already, which will undoubtedly affect their economy. I’m sure we are not far away before we start witnessing an international boycott from other foreign entities, and countries, who will try to also force their hand in our political process and interfere with the rights of the citizens. That my friends, will be the day that our dear friend Obama will suffice and issue executive orders and/or the Supreme Court will once again do what they do. All because our states are simply following their governmental processes and their right to retain their individuality.
