Unless you were born after the days of VHS tapes, you probably have fond memories of them. Sure, you had to rewind them back to the beginning and they came in chunky packaging, but they’re a sweet reminder of the good old days. You probably still have lots of these tapes lying around, and believe it or not, that’s a good thing! If you have old Disney VHS tapes, you could be sitting on a lot of money!
You may be in luck if you’ve held on to your old Disney VHS tapes. There are rare editions of Disney movies that sell for unbelievable amounts of money. Some of these VHS movies go for anything from $1,000 all the way up to $10,000! Beauty and the Beast is one of the most valuable of these VHS tapes- these have sold for prices as high as $9,000 on eBay!
The reason these tapes go for so much is that there are collectors out there (that’s right: like people who collect coins or stamps.
- These collectors consider certain editions to be highly valuable, especially those with unusual artwork, rare defects, and those VHS tapes that are limited-edition.
- One feature that is considered valuable is the black diamond. If you see a black diamond on a Disney VHS case that says “The Classics,” you could have a special edition of that VHS that can bring its value up to $250. If you see this diamond with Disney’s signature next to it, the VHS could even be worth thousands!
- One older edition of The Little Mermaid sold for $6,000 because it featured artwork that was later banned. One of the palace turrets on the VHS cover was considered inappropriate-looking, so the artwork was later redone.
- If you have a Beauty and the Beast VHS that includes the song “Human Again,” you could get some high bids, too. The song was cut from later editions of the VHS.
