Greg Zanis has built crosses to commemorate the victims of other mass shootings in America, including Columbine. The Orlando shooting was no different for him, except for the fact that he had to build more crosses than ever before. He delivered these 49 crosses to Orlando where they lay in honor of those who died.
#2 It Didn’t Take Long Before People Started To Approach The Crosses
There were only set down for a few moments before people in mourning came forward. They decided to do something to the crosses…
#3 Everyone Joined In
It didn’t take long for people of all ages and types to come forward and scribble their own thoughts and wishes onto these crosses. This was the first step in an amazing transformation of these crosses.
#4 Each Cross Represents An Individual
Each of these crosses represented an individual who had lost their life in the shooting. The people, taking matters into their own hands, felt that it was only fitting that each cross reflecting the unique individuality of that person, so more and more of the crosses began to take on their own special shape and vibe.
#5 Now They Look Incredible
Now the crosses have taken on an extremely different look to when they first arrived. They are almost unrecognizable, that’s how much time and effort the people have put into honoring the victims.
#6 The Victims Are Truly Being Honored
Greg Zanis says he has never seen anything like this before in his life. Never before have people honored and appreciated his crosses to such a high degree before.
#7 Hopefully This Offers Some Solace
Hopefully the act of customizing and adding features to these crosses has helped people grieve. It’s hard to accept, but these people are gone forever.
